LONG COURSES

1 TERM COURSES:

04. sep. 2011 – 09. juni 2012 (37 weeks)

30. okt. 2011 – 09. juni 2012 (29 weeks)

The long studio-based courses are an introduction to contemporary art and an opportunity for a long period of time, to work intensively with art without interruption.

All teachers at the Art School are practising artists themselves and will introduce you to a very broad range of contemporary art.

You have the opportunity to work with various problems in many different media from traditional landscape and abstract painting to video, computer and installation art.

Generally, the tuition consists of modules of a two-week duration with varying teachers and subjects.

TUITION

The tuition and studiowork is the very core of the school. This is our main focus. Introduction to contemporary art is made through lectures, study trips visiting galleries, slide presentations and furthermore, books and current magazines have a high priority.

The tuition at Kunsthøjskolen på Ærø is conceived as a laboratory set against a broad view of art, where theory and practise come together to support the needs of students and challenge their ideas in a focused and engaged environment.

TEACHING STAFF

All the teaching staff are practising artists from a wide range of artistic disciplines working with painting, sculpture, installation, media, photography and video. We aim at covering the various fields within the contemporary art practice throught visiting teachers, network, study trips and art magazines.

SUMMER and WEEK COURSES

Generally, all our summer courses runs for 2 weeks starting sunday afternoon finishing at noon saturday.

The prices (see individual course descriptions) cover board and lodging (including bed linen) and tuition. Single rooms cost extra 200 Dkr. Vegetarian dishes are served and dietary need catered for. Each individual attending the courses takes a turn to help with the dishes once a week. Children are welcome if we have the room but there are no arrangements for them or babysitting. There will be a discount of 40 % for children under 12 years.

Basic art supplies can be bought at the Art School but if you have specific needs we advice you to bring your own materials and equipment.

THE PLACE

Ærø is situated in the southern part of Denmark. It is a small island of 22000 acres with a population of 7000. The island has a beautiful character where practically all the crooked bicycle paths and roads lead to the ocean and the beach through wavy corn fields and small groves.

Kunsthøjskolen is situated in a complex of buildings: an old mill house dating from 1779 and a former village school from 1901. It is one of the most beautiful places in Denmark in the middle of a hilly landscape with the beach less than 2 miles away.

You will find all the necessary facilities at the school. Workshops available for painting, sculpture and media as well as outdoor facilities, and there is a library and a lecture room.

EVERYDAY LIFE

Assembly is held during the weekdays from 8:30 to 9:00. This is an important meeting for all kinds of information concerning details of the daily life, the agenda, different features with live performances or a short presentation of current themes of the art world.

The tuitions runs from 9:00 – 12:00 and again from 14:00 – 17:00 and 2- 3 evenings a week there will be lectures by our visiting teachers, film or slide projections or studio work.

Like at many other High Schools students help with cooking and cleaning on a limited basis. For students attending one or two weeks courses there will be only light kitchen duties.

A wide range of hot and cold dishes are served and we cater for vegetarians and dietary needs are catered for.

PRICES & PAYMENT

Generally, for all courses, is that you are registered when you have paid a deposit of 1.000,00 DKK. See the individual course descriptions – long courses, week courses or summer courses – for the specific prices.

STEDET
